Corroding, Non-Compliant Water Tank

Our guys at Cold Water Storage have refurbished a number of corroding water tanks in our time and know what is required to ensure you are fully compliant with the water tank legislation. This particular clients water tank was corroding pretty badly and we were called out to fully audit and reline the tank to make it compliant.

We were asked to reline this water tank for our client. The tank was corroding and non-compliant and it was due an inspection after not having one for over a year. This GRP water tank was pretty large and would require a lot of work in order to make it compliant. We sent out 4 guys from the team to start work on the water tank with the aim of having it complete before the Easter Bank Holiday. A water tank that had corroded like the one in this particular case can be potentially dangerous not only because of the potential of leaks but the water can also become more prone to infection.

After carrying out the audit and seeing which would be the most viable option, our water tank replacement team decided that the tank wouldn’t need replacing and could be relined without the client having to spend too much money on a brand new tank.

The work was undertaken in less than 4 weeks, including shot blast preparation and the application of a 2 pack lining system approved for potable water (stripe coat and 2 full coats). With the tank being so large and as such the coating had to be planned carefully by our 4 man team to ensure the correct adhesion between the first and second coats. Both first and second coats had to be applied less than 24 hours apart and applied in agreed sections.

Overall, our guys were happy with the final outcome of this particular relining project. It passed its subsequent audit and the client was delighted with the speed of the work and the quality of the final project. Is your water tank compliant?
